    Every person with basic knowledge about ecology and evironment is aware that all wildland areas are not of equal value. Some of them constitute habitats for endangered species, some are of special importance due to the uniqueness of the environment itself, and some require protection more than others because they are crucial for proper functioning of nearby areas. Some are also protected due to their aesthetics.

Biebrza National Park. Source.

Biebrza National Park (Polish: Biebrzański Park Narodowy) - the largest National Park of Poland. It centers around the Biebrza river which is protected from the very spring to its mouth falling into the Narew river. It is also the Park shown in the background picture of this website. The fauna around the Biebrza river is incredibly abundant, including high numbers of rare and endangered species. The Biebrza Marshes included within the Park shows a unique succession which includes multiple different types of wetlands, from fens, through raised bogs to wet woodlands which allows for presence of multiple wetland species. It is also one of the most popular mating grounds for wetland birds from around the world.

Drawa National Park (Polish: Drawieński Park Narodowy) - covers the Drawsko Forest and Drawa river. In total it protects a land of 113.42km². The main goal of the park is to protect the river and nearby lands and lakes since the high quality of the waters enable huge numbers of aquatic species to inhabit them - including roach, perch, pike, lavaret, vendance and trout. Radęcin reservation, included within the Park, is described as one of the most preserved beech forests of the European Plain.

Kampinos National Park (Polish: Kampinoski Park Narodowy) - covers 38 544.33 ha in total. It includes the biggest river junction of Poland, where valleys of Vistula, Bug, Narew, Wkra and Bzura meet together. The most characteristic parts of the Park are inland sand dunes and woody swamps. Territory covered by the Park includes very dry terrains as well as wet areas and rivers which allows for an exceptionaly wide range of plant and animal species to inhabit it.

Narew National Park (Polish: Narwiański Park Narodowy) - covers an area of 6810.23 ha. The Park is located in the Upper Narew Valley and includes vast swampy regions. Marsh areas are the most common environments within the Park's territory. The unique mozaic pattern of rivers and waterbodies provides exceptional aesthetic experiences. Narew National Park has been awarded the title of Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA) due to the significance of the area for migratory bird species.
